UVA’s First Minority-Led Investment Fund

Empowering students to learn, invest, and lead

Mission & Values

BlackFin is guided by the principles of Integrity, Empowerment, Education, and Philanthropy. We believe that integrity builds trust, empowerment gives students the confidence to lead, and education equips them with the tools to succeed. We commit to giving back: to each other, to UVA, and to the broader community we serve. These values, written into our Charter and Constitution, are what make BlackFin not only an investment group, they make it a movement.

  • BlackFin Investment Group (BlackFin), is the first minority-led student-run investment fund at the University of Virginia, founded to empower underrepresented students in finance, especially African American, Hispanic, and Native American communities

  • We operate a real-money long/short equity fund, paired with an education program that trains students through mentorship, research, and professional development. Members gain direct access to alumni, corporate sponsors, and industry-standard investing practices

  • We believe talent should never be limited by access. By reducing barriers to entry in finance, BlackFin creates a platform where students can learn, lead, and succeed, both at UVA and beyond

Internship Spotlight

  • At Citi, I served as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst on the Clean Energy Transition Desk, where I rebuilt and refined financial models, drafted Confidential Information Memoranda (CIMs), and supported investor outreach processes across live transactions. I collaborated with senior bankers to evaluate strategic alternatives for clients, conducted industry and company-specific research, and prepared client-ready presentation materials.

  • I served as an Investment Banking Intern on the Consumer & Retail team at RBC Capital Markets, where I supported live transactions and pitch processes by assisting junior analysts with client-facing presentation materials that included quantitative financial analysis for both strategic buyers and financial sponsors. For my final presentation, I delivered a company valuation supported by detailed financial models and an industry outlook.

  • At Goldman Sachs, I spent the summer interning as a Capital Markets & Private Wealth Management Analyst in the firm’s Asset & Wealth Management division. I focused on market analysis, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and due diligence, while also engaging directly with institutional and ultra–high-net-worth clients. Throughout the internship, I built my network within the firm by connecting with senior leaders, accomplished professionals, and fellow UVA alumni. I have received a full-time offer and plan to join Goldman Sachs upon graduation.

  • As a JPMorgan Chase MMBSI Summer Fellow in the Middle-Market Banking & Specialized Industries group, I produced an industry report on Business Services, completed borrower credit analyses for a syndicated deal (including financial spreading and cash-flow/DSCR sensitivity), and drafted an underwriting memo. I also contributed to a firmwide diversity case, where I delivered a financing and treasury recommendation and presented it to senior bankers.

  • At the Franconia District Supervisor's Office, I served as an intern where I shadowed UVA alum Supervisor Rodney Lusk, handled constituent casework, prepared board briefings, and learned the procedures for adding or improving vital public services. Through this experience, I gained a broader understanding of budgeting and the factors considered in project implementation, such as tax rates, zoning changes, and county policies — a valuable foundation as I continue my education at McIntire.

  • I worked as a Sales & Trading Summer Analyst at Barclays, rotating across Investment Grade Trading and Leveraged Finance Syndicate. Over the summer, I created and delivered credit and equity trade pitches incorporating relative value analysis, capital structure comps, and macro catalysts. I also produced a daily Leveraged Finance morning update covering high-yield bond and leveraged loan activity, while engaging with traders and originators to observe live market execution and strengthen my understanding of client workflows.

  • At UVIMCO, I served as an Investment Analyst Intern, where I evaluated fund managers across six asset classes, translated market research into actionable insights, and collaborated with senior investors to draft investment committee memos. For my capstone project, I designed a framework to measure the portfolio’s AI exposure, assessing both risks and opportunities, across public and private equity strategies.

  • At Booz Allen Hamilton, I worked as a Summer Management Consultant, focusing on technological advances within the Small Business Office and contributing to threat analysis within the Resilience team. For my final projects, I (1) designed a Small Business Identification Tool to streamline subcontractor identification, and (2) presented geopolitical research on how it can be used to create and assess threat playbooks for Booz Allen’s Fortune 100 commercial clients.
